SINAMICS V20 is a popular series of Siemens inverters with the advantages of versatility, compactness, simple installation, ease of use and cost savings. Flexible responsiveness to applications suitable for use in many fields.
Siemens Sinamics V20 supports basic control types such as Keypad, External Control, Analog Control and also supports control by Modbus-RTU (RS485). Today plc247.com will guide you to use MicroLogix 1400 PLC to control it in the simplest way.
MicroLogix 1400 & Sinamics V20 “Wiring Diagram”
+ You can connect the wire directly to the RS485 port of the MicroLogix 1400 PLC (MiniDIN – 8Pin Port) or use the 1763-NC01 Module to support easy wiring.
+ If the communication distance is long (>50m) need to use an extra 120(Ω) terminal resistor.
Siemens Sinamics V20 Parameters Setting
In addition to the basic parameters such as Voltage, Current, Frequency… then we need to install additional communication parameters for Siemens Sinamics V20
Siemens Sinamics V20 Registers Address for Control
Note: MicroLogix 1400 Address = “VFD Address (Dec) + 1“
>>> VFD Control Address = 99 + 1 = 100
- Set Word 40100 = 1151 >>> Forward Run
= 3199 >>> Reverse Run
= 1150 >>> Stop
>>> Frequency Setting Address = 100 + 1 = 101
- Speed Reference = 0 to 16384(dec) ~ (0 to 100%)
Siemens Sinamics V20 Registers Address for Monitoring
+ Below is the Data Output Monitoring table
In this project we read 3 feedback parameters in a row starting from Start Address:
+ Frequency Output Address = 23 + 1 = 24
MicroLogix 1400 “Modbus RTU” Configuration
In order for the MicroLogix 1400 PLC to control Siemens Sinamics V20, we need to set the communication parameters of the PLC to be the same as the VFD.
